To date, I have yet to run into an R.L. Mathewson book that I don’t like. Perfection happens to be one of my favorites. Recently I re-read it (and the rest of the series) and felt that it deserved a review. The first book in the series is good too (Playing for Keeps) – but I adore Perfection. Trevor and Zoe are my favorite characters. I relate to Zoe’s body issues, as most of us probably do. What I think I like most about this book though, is that while Trevor is confident in most aspects of his life, he too has confidence issues.
Okay – so on to the good stuff – these series of books never fail to make me laugh and smile. The Bradfords have an issue with food… meaning they eat a lot of food. I mean tons, and tons of food. So much food that they have been banned from local restaurants for unmentionable incidents. Trevor is no different from the rest of the large family of Bradfords. He is large, handsome, and eats constantly.
Zoe and Trevor’s relationship starts out over a Monster Pizza and an order of chicken tenders. Zoe had the worst day ever, she was fired from her job, her car window fell off the track and its raining, and to top it off – Trevor stole her food. Finally standing up for herself, she tries to take her food back from him. When he refuses, she embarrasses him:
‘”And every night you watch porn!” she said accusingly, and he swore he felt his cheeks burn. Fuck. This was embarrassing. Well, at least she didn’t say- “And you’re loud. Really loud,” she stressed, further pissing him off.’
I love Zoe and Trevor’s story, and it was this book that thoroughly hooked me into the world of the Bradfords. Plus the sex scenes in the books are good – they aren’t over the top cheesy, and I don’t once remember seeing the word moist… /shudder/… Get them all, and if you love them as much as I do, get the Audible companions too! Fran Jules did a fantastic job. This book is Perfection!
